Our Sugar Bowl Adventure
Koloa and I flew to New Orleans to watch the Utes play (and dominate) in the 2009 Sugar Bowl. It was quite and adventure but well worth it. After flying to Las Vegas and then to New York we got into New Orleans at about noon on January 2nd and had to be to the tail gate party by 2. We quickly checked into our hotel changed and rushed to the Marriott for the tail gate party. They had all kinds of food that we hadn't tried before like sea food gumbo and po-boy sandwiches, but our favorite food at the tail gate was the yummy deserts. We left the tail gate early because we wanted to get to the Superdome early and we had a LONG walk. After walking for what seemed like forever we got to the Superdome at 4:55 and were told we had to wait until 5 to get in. Once we got in we were able to watch the Utes do some pre-game practicing, check out the huge stadium, and talk with Alabama fans since we were sitting in their section and were surrounded by them. Once the game got going it was nothing but excitement the entire time because they showed us from the beginning that they were not messing around. Most of the Alabama fans cleared out by the beginning of the 4th quarter and we were able to see that we weren't the only Utah fans in the Alabama section. We moved down from the 27th row to the 4th row to watch the final few minutes and then stuck around to high five some of the Utah players after the game. The walk back to our car after the game didn't seem so bad because we were surrounded by Ute fans. The next day we went downtown for some site seeing, we ate at Bubba Gump Shrimp house, which was delicious and we visited the River-walk, Burbon Street, and a lot of the little shops that are all over the city. We stopped into a little restaurant to have desert that evening and by the time we came out the streets had turned to rivers and we walked back to the car in a down-poor. What an adventure!! It was all so much fun and something that we will never forget.
